Melissa Sullivan – “Fade”

Persephone Statue by Benno Elkan

Poet and artist Melissa Sullivan reflects on the impermanence of all things in this short, moving springtime poem.

Fade

All blooms decay
Persephone speaks from her Stygian palace
Bright blooms are brief
Delicate and easily bruised
We gather our flowers in May
But we must accept that they too shall fade
